The on effect on lamelo

In my class, called Disease, we studied various types of diseases and looked at the human body. We also learned linear equations and different types of math problems. In this class, we had to make a Action Project about someone with a disease and tell the story behind them. We had to make a drawing of the human body and label what parts of the body the disease had affected. Creating the drawing for this project was fun and I learned a lot from researching about this disease.

Lamelo is a middle aged man who lives in Chicago. The disease Lamelo suffers from is called Hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is a disease when your thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone thyroxine. This disease can change your bodies metabolism which causes it to speed up. Hyperthyroidism impacts Lamelo life by causing issues with his body. Specifically, he experiences bulging eyes, goiters, nausea, diarrhea, sweating, tachycardia (rapid heart beat, commonly more than 100 beats 1 minute), tremor (Usually moving your hands and fingers without noticing), and fatigue (muscle weakness). His brain also gets cloudy and he often feels cold. This can be hard for Lamelo because he has a Goiter because it makes it hard to swallow and breath. To cure a goiter naturally, you have to eat enough iodine. “Iodine is an element that is needed for the production of thyroid hormone”. To make sure you get enough iodine, use iodine salt in your food or eat seafoods and seaweed at least twice a week. Even though it’s not common, taking in too much iodine can in turn cause a goiter. Lamelo eats sushi twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Some mornings he eats smoked salmon to get his iodine levels up. By doing this, Lamelo’s goiter became smaller and smaller, and although it is still there, it has decreased in size since before his diet. I interviewed him about his disease and asked many questions to him about hyperthyroidism. During the interview, Lamelo said, “There's some natural things you can do to help your symptoms if you take a calcium and sodium supplement, and exercise and eat right that those are ways I naturally heal myself “. These things are very important for him because it allows him to  keep his thyroid level in normal range. Not eating healthy can really affect your body especially if you suffer from hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism can also be cured with antithyroid drugs. These drugs stop the overproduction of thyroid hormones. It can also be treated with radioactive iodine. Radioactive iodine is used for patients that have this disease that destroy overactive thyroid tissue or to shrink thyroid glands. You can also get surgery and fix your thyroid.

Hyperthyroidism is not a deadly disease but it can really affect your body and your everyday life. Hyperthyroidism starts in a person when your thyroid hormones overproduce but no one knows why they overproduce. This disease could be genetic but it's typically not. The physiology of hyperthyroidism is that the thyroid produces too much hormone and that how the disease starts. Hyperthyroidism is most common in women. It mostly affects older ages (41+) but it can affects 19-41 year olds a lot too.  This disease does not spread in your body because its only in your trout but it affects many places in your body. The symptoms for Hyperthyroidism are fast metabolism so you lose weight easily, tachycardia which is rapid heart beat (commonly more than 100 beats 1 minute), palpitations (pounding of heart), increased appetite, Tremor (Usually moving your hands and fingers without noticing), sweating, sensitivity to heat, fatigue (muscle weakness), insomnia, skin thinning, fine brittle hair, goiters, bulging eyes, nausea and diarrhea.
